Biofuel is a fuel created as a result of processing products of living organisms, such as plants, animals or microorganisms. :
The following biofuels may be distinguished:
solid: straw in a form of bales, blocks or briquettes, sawdust or straw granulate – the so-called pellet, wood, hay and other processed plant waste;
liquid: obtained through alcoholic fermentation of carbohydrates to ethanol, butyl fermentation of biomass to butanol or plant oils esterified into biodiesel (e.g. rape oil);
gaseous: obtained through anaerobic fermentation of liquid and solid waste of agricultural animal production (liquid manure, manure, straw, etc.)
- biogas, created in the process of biomass gasification
- generator gas (wood distillation gas).
The use of biofuels enables reducing imports and consumption of crude oil.
